Between the heat wave we experienced a couple of weeks ago and the rain of this past week, our fruit plants and trees have really popped.
What I'm really excited about is the amount of cherries we have on our tree. I'm not actually sure of the name but they look exactly like the one's picured to the right. People sometimes call these Rainer cherries, but who knows. All I know is that they are my favorite kind of cherry in that they are solid and have just the right balance of bitter and sweet for my palate.
Last year we only had about 5-6 that made it to the edible stage since tree worms spun their damned webs around nearly all the blossoms early in the year. Not this year, however. My battle will be a simpler one between my children and birds. Birds will be easy as I can hang some noise-making things in the tree to scare them away, but the kids will be kids. At least it's a tough tree to climb and I have a ladder, so I should be relatively set.
Here's a look at one little branch as an example of how loaded the tree should be in a few weeks:
I'll try to remember to update this with a picture once they're ripe, but most likely I'll be sitting in the top of the tree munching down with thoughts far from a camera and updating this.
