My latest creation/addition to the backyard is a 2 bin compost to replace the now rotten one made decades ago and since taken over by nettles, thistles and other aggressive weeds. I went with a 2 bin system to allow for periodic rotation of the vegetative matter in addition to the weekly stirring.

I made it from extra wood I had laying around from other completed projects (you may recognize the white lattice fencing sides from the old deck I tore apart 2 years ago), so I see it as not only a very cheap solution, but also very environmentally sound project of recycling even before any compost comes from the clippings.
I'll use primarily grass clippings and thinly chopped, uncooked vegetable leftovers along with bbq ashes and a touch of dirt on occassion to, hopefully, have a couple decent loads of compost for the fall.
Of course I slats to slide into the front with the appropriate gaps to keep airflow as well as a top to slap on to retain some heat. We'll see how it goes and I'll keep you posted!
