Egad! I've registered as a member of House Chronicles, I'm eager to get rolling with my delightfully whimsical and informative descriptions of the Saga of Our House, and I don't have a clue where to start. So where do I start?
Here are a few answers. We'll be adding rooms and hallways to this section as the site develops, and as our users send us their queries:
How do I...
Uploading a user avatar
- Navigate to your user profile page ("my account" in the lower left, or find one of your posts or comments and click your user name)
- Click the Edit tab at the top
- Scroll down to the section labeled "Picture".
- If there's already a picture there and you want to delete it, click "Delete picture". Otherwise, click "Browse" to navigate to a picture file stored on your local computer. Files must be jpg or gif format and cannot be larger than 60x60 pixels and 20kb in size.
- Scroll down some more and click "Submit"
- That's it!
Posting a message to your chronicle
- Click "my blog" in the lower left menu.
- Click "post new blog entry"
- Type in an appropriate title
- Type a few appropriate keywords. These can be general, specific, or both, e.g., "Interior, floors, hardwood, installation"
- Type your article in the text box. You can also paste in articles you've already typed in a word processing program. There are a number of formatting tools available to make your article more attractive and/or easier to read.
- Click "Preview" to preview your article. If you're satisfied with everything, click "Submit". Otherwise, make any changes you'd care to make, then preview again. Repeat as necessary.
- Done! You will be taken automatically to the new page after clicking "Submit".
Post an image or images
- Each member of House Chronicles is automatically allocated 1MB of storage space for hosting images. Most users will probably use this up fairly quickly, though, so what we recommend is that our members host their images on one of the many image hosting services (such as Flickr). That way you won't be constricted by our fairly tight limits. You can then easily include the images in your posts by clicking the image button
and filling in the URL of the image.
- If you instead choose to upload your images to House Chronicles, do so by first clicking the image button
. Then click the browse button
to navigate to the folder on your computer where the image is stored. Click "Browse", find the file, and click "Upload". The image will appear on your personal list of images. Click "add" in the list to add the image to your chronicle.
